Claire Cowie

Claire Cowie is a painter, sculptor and printmaker working in Seattle. She is represented by James Harris Gallery and Elizabeth Leach Gallery, and was a full time lecturer at the University of Washington in the Interdisciplinary Visual Arts Program for many years. Awards include a Pollock-Krasner Grant and fellowships from Washington State Arts Commission, Artist Trust, Seattle Office of Arts and Culture and the Behnke Foundation. Collections include Microsoft, Tacoma Art Museum, Henry Art Gallery, Swedish Cancer Institute, Vulcan Inc., and Twitter. Reviews have appeared in Art in America, ArtForum, Artweek and Los Angeles Times. Cowie’s paintings and sculptures address ambiguities in perception and fragmentation of memory and time. Her work is characterized by vibrant color, attention to negative space and shifting landscapes.
