Artists Collaborate
Sometimes two artists will work together on the same image creating a new print made up of their individual plates. Occasionally, artists will draw on the same plates together. Flip is an example of a print made by combining two plates, the background plate by Kim Van Someren and the foreground image of the cat by Claire Cowie. Flip is a unique print signed by both artists. Flip was created specifically for a tour demonstration at SFAP for the Achenbach Graphic Arts Council in 2013. The visit to SFAP was part of a larger Seattle art tour organized by Seattle art advisor Margery Aronson.
Artist’s sometimes involve an audience in the making of a print. Sheila Coppola has used this technique more than once in her work. She supplies a small sheet of Japanese paper to each person in the audience who wants to participate and has them make a simple drawing of their choice which she then cuts up and incorporates into her print as a chine collé element. Dancer Collaborative CTP was made during a demonstration at Highline Heritage Museum in Burien using this method.
